National Saturday Club
Introduction
We were initially commissioned to create a new site for The Sorrell Foundation by John and Francis Sorrell. With that project successfully completed, they asked if we were interested to overhaul the site for the Saturday Club, a bigger and more complex task.
National Saturday Club provide opportunities for young people from all walks of life to pursue their passions and nurture their talents. Over the last ten years, over 8000 young people have received free expert tuition from tutors and industry experts on Saturday mornings at Clubs across the U.K.
The project would involve completely overhauling their platform from the bottom up. This meant creating a templating system for each of their many member clubs around the country, flexible enough to accommodate a variety of material yet from slideshows, videos, masterclasses and much more.
Breakdown
Content framework
We developed a set of flexible content framework to house the content of its varied member clubs. From slideshows, films, social channels, associated club(s), thematic interests and much more.
Find a club
Alongside rich pages for each of their member clubs, we also created a map that allows young people to locate a club closest to them. They can filter by the type of club. Created using the Mapbox geo-location and search API.
Masterclasses
Alongside all the information about individual clubs, the platform also houses information about Saturday Club and its governance alongside details on its masterclass programme.
Going online
During Covid-19, when in-person teaching was post-phoned we helped develop a online resource for young people, enabling them to stay creative and engaged with the National Saturday Club.
The resource contains a huge number of projects that Club Members could undertake with detailed instructions and a portal where they could upload the results of their work to be shared later.
Alongside these projects the site also hosted masterclass films by artists such as Anthony Gormley.
